Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 27 March 2025

1. Agreement to Terms

By registering for an account, accessing the Accountley API, or using any part of our website at accountley.co, you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions (“Terms”). If you do not agree, you must not use our services.

These Terms form an agreement between you and Accountley, a trading name operated by an individual based in the United Kingdom (“Accountley”, “we”, “us”).

2. The Service

Accountley provides programmatic access to normalised UK Companies House data via a REST API, including:

  • Company registration and status information
  • Financial filing data (balance sheets, profit & loss, key metrics)
  • Officer and director information
  • Beneficial ownership and persons with significant control (PSC) data
  • Filing history

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the service at any time. We will endeavour to provide reasonable advance notice of any material changes.

3. Account Registration

To use the API you must create an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete registration information
  • Keep your API keys and login credentials confidential
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorised use at contact@accountley.co
  • Accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account

You must be at least 18 years old and legally capable of entering into a binding contract to register. If you are registering on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

4. API Usage and Fair Use

Your use of the API is subject to the request limits of your chosen plan:

  • Free — 100 requests per calendar month
  • Starter (monthly) — 1,000 requests per calendar month
  • Starter (yearly) — 1,000 requests per calendar month
  • Business (monthly) — 10,000 requests per calendar month
  • Business (yearly) — 10,000 requests per calendar month

Requests in excess of your plan limit will be rejected with an HTTP 429 response. We do not automatically charge for overage; you must upgrade your plan to increase your limit.

We monitor usage to ensure fair access for all customers. We reserve the right to throttle or suspend accounts that place excessive load on our infrastructure, regardless of plan limits.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the service to:

  • Violate any applicable law or regulation, including data protection law
  • Scrape, cache, or redistribute raw data in bulk without our prior written consent
  • Resell or sublicense API access to third parties
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract our proprietary algorithms
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the service
  • Use the data to harass, stalk, or harm any individual
  • Build any product or service that competes directly with Accountley using our data

Breach of this section may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account without refund.

6. Payment and Billing

Paid plans are billed monthly in advance in pounds sterling (GBP). Payment is processed securely via our payment provider. By providing payment details you authorise us to charge your payment method on a recurring monthly basis.

  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date
  • You may cancel at any time; access continues until the end of the current billing period
  • No refunds are provided for partial months
  • We may change pricing with 30 days' written notice; continued use after that date constitutes acceptance
  • All prices are in pounds sterling (GBP) and inclusive of any applicable taxes

7. Data Accuracy

The data provided through the Accountley API is sourced from Companies House public records and other publicly available datasets. Whilst we make reasonable efforts to ensure accuracy and timeliness, we cannot guarantee that all data is complete, accurate, or up to date. You should not rely solely on Accountley data for high-stakes decisions without independent verification.

8. Intellectual Property

All software, documentation, branding, and content on the Accountley platform (excluding underlying public Companies House data) is owned by or licensed to Accountley and is protected by intellectual property law.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use the API solely for your internal business purposes in accordance with these Terms.

9. Warranties and Limitation of Liability

The service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or meet your specific requirements.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Accountley's total aggregate liability to you for any claims arising under or in connection with these Terms shall not exceed the total fees paid by you in the three months preceding the claim.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited by English law.

10. Termination

Either party may terminate the account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access immediately and without notice if you breach these Terms, fail to pay fees when due, or if we are required to do so by law.

Upon termination, your right to access the API ceases immediately. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, limitation of liability, and governing law) shall do so.

11. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms and any disputes arising out of or in connection with them shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

We will endeavour to resolve any dispute informally in the first instance. Please contact us at contact@accountley.co before initiating formal proceedings.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email at least 14 days before they take effect. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the service before the changes come into effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.

13. Contact
